Victorian rockers Dip Road Dogs have only just released their debut EP, but they’ve already returned with the video for previous single ‘Serenity Now’.
If you’re a fan of accomplished Aussie psych-rock, then there’s no need to look any further than the brilliant work being served up by Kerang outfit Dip Road Dogs.
Having been releasing music for a number of months now, the group have been going from strength to strength, sharing a number of exceptional singles in the lead-up to their recently-released EP. Now, they’ve shared the music video for standout track, ‘Serenity Now’.
Directed by Nate Hill and Lucas Packett, the black and white clip for ‘Serenity Now’ kicks off alongside the slow-burning, droning riff, showing off the dusty roads of Kerang as a simple trip to the pub runs into a number of troubles.
“Jack Pay is followed on his journey to the local watering hole but the trip isn’t as simple as first planned,” explains singer Dave Chirnside of the video’s content. “It was filmed up in Kerang pre-COVID so we’re very excited to get it out!”
Originally released as a single back in January, ‘Serenity Now’ serves as one of the blistering tracks featured on Shakshuka, the group’s debut EP, which released this time last week.
“‘Serenity’ is another one of the demos that came to us to not long before recording” Chirnside told us of the track. “We started this one off with just the guitar riff and the others added their parts and it turned into a bit more of a progressive number.

“The sprinkling keys courtesy of Matt Close and the haunting lead guitar of Jack Pay makes this one of our favourites to play. Ross McReynolds is an amazing session drummer based in Nashville and we wanted to get him to record drums on this as our drummer Ollie couldn’t make it to Nashville due to the arrival of his newborn girl.
“Once Ross played on this track we couldn’t get enough and he ended up tracking the drums for ‘Chaos In Kherson’, ‘Labour Day’, and another unreleased track that we had some fun with.
“We had never intended to have such a heavy rock sound on the EP, but once in the studio it got the better of us and we decided to have one track to unleash.”
If you’re loving what you’re hearing, you can check out the video below, and you can find the group’s Shakshuka EP on Spotify. While there’s no word yet as to when we might be able to catch them live, hopefully this one will tide you over until venues once again open their doors.
