Tonight the Dune Rats boys will close the GW McLennan tent at Splendour In The Grass with a very special set. Billed as “Dune Rats & Friends” we’re expecting a bunch of special guests, a whole lot of fun, and probably more inflatable Dunies tinnies.
At this point these boys are Splendour veterans, as this is the fourth year out of the past five they’ve played the festival. The band are also Aussie rock legends at this point so it’s no surprise they want to do something a bit different. If their past performances are anything to go off, you won’t want to miss this.
Watch: Dune Rats – “Scott Green” live at Splendour 2017
Their past Splendour gigs have seen their mates in rat costumes go zorbing on the crowd, burping into the microphone, wacky waving inflatable arm tube men, and more! Whilst the boys are keeping their plans secret for now, here’s a few things we can expect.
No Skegss
A lot of people are expecting the Skegss boys to be on stage at some point with Dune Rats, but sadly we can confirm that won’t be happening. Even though these bands are mates and often tour together the distance between Byron and Adelaide might be a little too far for that friendship to reach. Skegss will be hitting the stage in Adelaide for the Spin-Off Festival After Party at the same time Dunies hit the stage in Byron, so that’s definitely not happening.
There will be inflatable things
The boys have an obsession with the inflatable things. Whether it’s for their backdrop, inflatable wacky arm waving machines for crowd morale, or just inflatable versions of their Young Henry’s collaboration, there’s always something.
The crowd will be insane
It seems like it’s just the norm at a Dune Rats gig for the mosh pit to be absolutely out of control. We’re pretty sure tonight will likely be even more hectic than normal. If you’re going and want to be there up the front, we recommend you get there well before 10.
There will be friends
It’s a shame that Skegss will be in Adelaide, but don’t worry! The boys have got plenty of friends that’ll be there to support them and play a few tracks with them. It’s unlikely, but maybe Courtney Taylor-Taylor might even come out and burp with them!

It will be loud
Make no mistake, these boys play loud, the fact that they’re playing the last set of the night in the tent means they’ll be getting extra loud and extra loose. Be ready.
