…and it goes hard.
Just under eight months from the release of his second studio album, Hyperion, French producer Gesaffelstein went and dropped a six-track collection of material on fans in NOVO Sonic System.
For a passing fan of Gesaffelstein’s, the EP is a slick introduction to his brand of dark techno – instrumental bangers that could be the perfect soundtrack to an impending apocalypse. For the more well-schooled fan, the EP is a return to the roots of what made Gesaffelstein so dang good in his breakthrough days.
Gesaffelstein – ‘Dance X’
There were no previews of the EP in the lead up to its release, and interestingly again, there are no features on the record. A completely solo effort, Gesaffelstein works with tension and dark bass and rhythmic percussion to establish an environment that is equal parts immersive and edgy.
The release of Hyperion back in March saw Gesaffelstein link up with a who’s who of pop music and production, including The Weeknd, Pharrell Williams, Andrew Wyatt and HAIM.

Released six years on from his acclaimed debut, Aleph, Gesaffelstein flexed impressively on Hyperion, but with NOVO Sonic System, the producer really goes in and gets amongst some dark textures and threatening sonics.
Bueno.
