U.K. psychedelic pop outfit Glass Animals have said they’ll get a tattoo of Australia on their arses if they triumph in the triple j Hottest 100.

Now if that’s not a reason to vote for a band in the competition, I don’t know what is. They have a real chance of winning too. Their hit ‘Heat Waves’ is currently the outright favourite, according to the predictor 100 Warm Tunas.

‘Heat Waves’ was taken from their latest album, last year’s Dreamland. The record peaked at number six on the ARIA album charts.

The band’s lead singer Dave Bayley announced the brave decision via their official Facebook page: “in the miraculous event that Heat Waves gets the top spot, I will get my first ever tattoo. It will be the shape of australia, and it will be on the top right of my bum…where you might print the italicised initials of a lover. Joe is going to do it as well. So will Drew. Ed says we are all idiots and refuses to join the party.”

Bayley went on to profess Glass Animals’ love of Australia, where they had their first sold-out shows and triple j gave them some of their first radio airplay in the world.

“Australia has been incredibly generous to us,” he continued, “and now, if we come #1, we will proudly display our gratitude and celebrate by cementing our affection for your country deep into the skin of our butt cheeks.”

Australia is a bloody massive country to be fair. Perfect for a derrière landscape tattoo. We pity whichever town ends up in the crack though.

This really puts the pressure on future contenders. It’s simply not enough to just win the Hottest 100 now. We want – demand – you to show your love of Australia in some way. Well done, Glass Animals.

If you want to see if the band ultimately do triumph, this year’s triple j Hottest 100 is scheduled to take place later this month on Saturday, January 23rd.

Mark the date.
