It sounds like Grimes isn’t a fan of being famous anymore, likening it to being in “an emotionally abusive relationship.”

In a social media post, the singer brought up the subject of fame. “I just have literally zero interest in being famous anymore,” she wrote on Twitter. “My job requires being on social media.

It’s equivalent to an emotionally abusive relationship to hear countless times throughout the day about what a failure I am.. just in order to do my job on the most basic level.”

Grimes’ post was probably prompted by her former relationship with Elon Musk, which brought with it intense public scrutiny. The pair announced their separation back in September, revealing that they had been “semi-separated” after three years as a couple.

“We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms,” Musk said about the end of the relationship.

Grimes recently had fun playing with her fame. Last month, she deliberately staged a picture that quickly went viral, posing jokingly with a copy of Karl Marx’s The Communist Manifesto.

Considering she had made an infamous TikTok about communism in space just before doing that, the paparazzi loved ‘catching’ the star with Marx’s book but the joke turned out to be on them.

“Paparazzi followed me (to) a shoot so I tried (to) think what I could do that would yield the most Onion-ish possible headline and it worked haha,” she said on Twitter about the incident.

Since her split with Musk, Grimes has returned to music, releasing her new song ‘Love’ on Instagram. She said that the song’s release was done “in response to all the privacy invasion, bad press, online hate and harassment by paparazzi I’ve experienced this week.”
