Google, Microsoft, Yahoo Help Combat Advertising On Music Piracy Sites
IT giants Google, Microsoft, AOL, Yahoo, and Condé Nast have voluntarily agreed to “best practices” agreements as part of an industry effort in America to stop advertising from appearing on websites devoted to music piracy and illegal downloading. As part of the agreement, each company will uphold internal protocols that bar dodgy third-party websites that advertise on piracy sites that benefit from ad revenue, determined by websites that are ‘flagged’ through a complaint procedure for rights holders. The good will push has even won the attention of the White House, who applauded efforts in an announcement entitled “Coming Together to Combat Online Piracy and Counterfeiting.” (via Billboard)

Rdio Focusses On Content Partnerships In New Marketing Strategy
Music streaming service Rdio is concentrating on exclusive content partnerships as part of a new multi-million dollar marketing strategy. The new move is modelled on a US deal with Paramour where Rdio had an exclusive stream of the band’s latest, self-titled album which resulted in “1.25 million streams” for the service, says Rdio’s head of Australia/NZ Colin Blake; a result “beyond our expectations,” he adds. Rdio has already made Australian partnerships to gain exclusive access to a Gold Fields remix of Empire Of The Sun’s single ‘Alive’ as part of an early trial. Rdio will also be creating media partnership deals with local music festivals, touring artists and music events. It recently supported the James Blake tour and the Stereosonic Festival, with other deals in the pipeline.
