Aussie metalheads were supposed to see the mighty Iron Maiden kick off their latest tour today. Instead, the veterans have officially cancelled their visit.

Back in November, Iron Maiden revealed to their fans that they would be bringing their Legacy Of The Beast tour to Australia in 2020, two years after kicking off the “history/hits” tour.

Supported by Killswitch Engage, the group’s first visit since 2016 was in such high demand that an extra show was added in Melbourne. Unfortunately, when COVID-19 restrictions locked down much of the world back in March, Iron Maiden announced they would be postponing their visit.

Check out the official cancellation announcement:

“We still intend to bring this great Legacy Of The Beast show to you all as soon as we can and I promise we will do everything we can to achieve this with our promoters and subject to what is happening around us globally,” the group wrote in a statement. “Take care of yourselves, be safe and be smart.”

However, it appears as though the postponement has now been kicked up another notch, with the band’s manager Rob Smallwood officially announcing the axing of the tour today.

“As you know, we were due to be with you shortly for the May shows and we are all very disappointed that we can’t get to see you all as originally planned,” Smallwood wrote in a statement.

“However we do promise our fans that we will get down to see you when we reasonably can. We love touring in your beautiful countries, where we always feel very much at home and welcome.

“Hopefully I can tell you more later this year when things should become clearer. Take care of yourselves, be safe and be smart.”

To make things hurt a little bit more, the news was shared on the same day that Iron Maiden were originally set to kick off their Aussie run, with the tour scheduled to begin in Perth this evening.

At this stage, there’s no word as to when fans will get a chance to catch the metal icons on Aussie soil, though we’re hoping they’ll use the rest of the year to focus on a new album.
