Just when you thought it was safe to go outside after the hubris surrounding Rebecca Black died a very undignified death (we’re looking at you Telstra), comes along something new that turns it up and notch and will have you scratching your head saying, ‘this can’t be serious…right?’.
Remember ‘N Sync? That boy band that broke a million teenage and prepubescent hearts when they broke up in 2002? No, don’t worry. They aren’t joining in on the recent spat of reformations. Thank goodness for that. But we did think the era of boy bands, who go hand in hand with the 90s, was well and truly over.
Until this arrived in our inboxes. A new group called Heart2Heart, which is being mentored and championed by former ‘N Sync member Lance Bass. The group have announced their arrival on the world stage and have just put a music video for single ‘Facebook Official’. The only thing official about the song is it is officially terrible, and the music video isn’t much better with five young boys prancing about singing about wanting to change their Facebook status.
The video’s been viewed on Youtube over 1 Million times already, and has an impressive 2,576 likes and 25,552 dislikes. But people are starting to smell something fishy with the group and many are questioning whether the group is real or just a parody.
Billboard magazine in the US has discovered that the band is managed by Nick Reed who has a long history of making celebrity parody videos such as ‘A Very Bieber Christmas‘ and a karaoke version of the Black Eyed Peas’ “The Time (Dirty Bit)’. He also made ‘Myspace The Movie’ which was a viral hit a few years back.
So is the band real (in which case we owe Rebecca Black a huge apology), or just a really clever parody? Watch the video below and make your own mind up. Be sure to tell us what you think in our poll too.
