Former Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison has undoubtedly made some fans rather excited, announcing he’s got plenty of the band’s unheard demos in his possession.
Over the last year, Slipknot have been teasing fans with news of a brand new record. While Corey Taylor has stated that these his new lyrics are among some of the best he’s written, it seems as though we’ll have to wait until mid-2019 to see what the new album sounds like.
However, it turns out that there are plenty of unheard Slipknot demos out there, though it might be a bit tricky if we ever want to hear them.
Back in 2013, founding percussionist Joey Jordison announced his departure from the band. While remaining members said he left voluntarily, Jordison explained he was “shocked” to learn of this news, and no further information about his departure has been released.
However, in a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Joey Jordison revealed he has a bunch of unused Slipknot tracks in his possession – but fans will only hear them if he ever returns to the group.
“I have a ton of Slipknot demos that I have at home,” Jordison began. “Maybe some day they’ll surface, maybe they’ll never be heard, but I don’t translate them to any other band, they still stay in the Slipknot safe.”
“I won’t use them for anyone else besides Slipknot, if that ever happens again.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Jordison discussed whether he still writes music in his former band’s trademark style. “It depends,” he began. “I play guitar all the time and I’m constantly thinking of songs.”
“I sleep music. I wake up and there’s a riff in my head, every step I take there’s a riff, a beat, or something. That’s the way a musician is. You’re isolated in a weird way because music is haunting you as much as it’s loving you. It’s non-stop.”
In related Slipknot news, the group celebrated Halloween recently by releasing ‘All Out Life’, their first new song in four years. No word yet as to when we’ll be getting more new music, but we can definitely say we’re very excited.
