The furore surrounding the end of Heatwave festival continues to build with scores of angry ticket holders flooding internet message boards and our inboxes to express their disatisfaction.
Fans in Melbourne have felt particularly hard done by when Chamillionaire failed to show up, D12 was reduced to only two members, a screw up with the liquor license meant they didn’t have one, and headliner Kid Cudi has his set cut microphone cut off and the show shut down after only 20 minutes.
Kid Cudi responded by trashing the stage knocking over whatever he could get his hands on before he was chased off stage by security and quickly sped away in his awaiting van. Cudi has remained tight-lipped about the incident until today when he posted an update on his Tumblr writing:
If my set is EVER cut short at any show, im trashing the stage. Not out of anger, it takes a lot to get me furious nowadays, but out of principle. The fans always deserve a full set at all shows, especially when they spend their hard earned money on expensive tickets. A lot of artist wouldnt do what I did in Australia, but I will.
Spread the word. No matter the circumstance, cut my set short, im breaking shit. And next time im startin a riot. Me and my fans. Cause promoters will sometime take advantage of the artists, and u gotta let em know what time it is. Cutting nobody any slack.
D12 have admitted that the festival was pretty crazy but also said in an interview with us yesterday “It was just paperwork holding us up and once we got that all done, we was over here. That’s all that was.”
The promoter of the show continues to seem unrepentant, despite Fair Trading in NSW demanding he offer some refunds and calls for authorities in Victoria to follow suit. Organisers have so far refused to apologise to disgruntled ticket holders and have even gone as far as saying “things will only get bigger better and more affordable in the future”. Like there’s any future for these muppets.
Also, don’t forget to check out our review of the Melbourne show where our reviewer described the ending of the festival saying “Had I paid upwards of $150 to witness this clusterfuck I probably would have cried too. In terms of festival fuck up’s Heatwave may just take the cake.”
