The travelling circus that is Heatwave Festival continues to just give and give with news coming through today that the event in Melbourne would not have alcohol available for sale due to a stuff up with liquor licensing.

The announcement was made by organisers for the beleaguered festival just hours before the gates were scheduled to open via a Facebook comment on the official fan page.

“Due to the Victorian Police there will be no liquor license at the SMMB [Sidney Myer Music Bowl],” wrote organisers. “So save a fortune and have some drinks before getting on the grass with Kid Cudi, Tech N9ne, Obie, D12, Crazytown & Chamillionaire!”

We’ve reached out for comment to the Victoria Police but didn’t hear back in time for deadline. If we hear anything more we’ll keep you updated.

The trouble at the Melbourne event is just the latest in a string of mishaps and screw ups including headliners D12 missing three of the six dates, the Perth event being cancelled at the eleventh-hour, and extremely poor attendance in each city.

The festival also caught the ire of Fair Trading in New South Wales who demanded promoters offer refunds to disgruntled ticket holders who no longer wished to attend due to D12s absence, and for organisers to cease promoting D12 in their marketing material.
