King Gizzard are proving to be just as popular across the U.S. and Europe as they are at home, joining big festival lineups and getting #1 albums on vinyl in America.
On that note, they were invited into the legendary Bay Area record store Amoeba Music to go crate digging, and chat about their favourite picks. As you’d expect, they’ve grabbed some obscure albums from all sorts of eras and genres, in keeping with the range of influences that have popped up on their many, many records.
The sad part is that the iconic store is being forced from its home to make way for apartment buildings, and may be forced to move even earlier than everyone was expecting – a tragedy for local music lovers. They’re on the hunt for a new location, but nothing is ever going to replace the classic.
King Gizzard are gearing up to release their next record Sketches of East Brunswick this month, but you can buy a signed test pressing right now if you’ve got a spare few grand in your pocket.
It’s not quite as expensive as the incredibly rare test pressing Amoeba sold back in 2015, which was the rarest, most expensive record they’ve ever stocked.
Meanwhile, Amoeba aren’t the only fans of King Gizzard overseas, with Baby Driver director Edgar Wright saying recently he hoped to work with them, and then meeting them at the a film screening.
King Gizzard are still jaunting around the world, but will be back in the country in time for their annual Aussie music bash Gizzfest from November 18 – December 4.
They’ve been joined by the likes of Drunk Mums, Destrends, POND, The Murlocs, ORB and Mangelwurzel since kicking off in 2015, and we’re sure there’ll be an even bigger list of names on the bill this year.
