The final celebrations of Mardi Gras season are coming up, and what’s a Mardi Gras party without the amazing works from LGBTQ+ artists themselves. Here are just 10 of our favourites killing the game at the moment.

Mardi Gras is essentially Gay Christmas, so it is only right to celebrate it the right way, by acknowledging the incredible work that LGBTQ+ people have put into the music industry.

Here are 10 artists that absolutely need to be on your 2020 playlists, and if they aren’t, well what are you waiting for sis?

Cub Sport

I couldn’t put ‘Come On Mess Me Up’ as the track or else I’d cry my eyes out for the 1000th time to how amazing it is. Cub Sport are the pure definition of queer excellence and ‘I Never Cried So Much In My Whole Life’ is endlessly beautiful.

Perfume Genius

I may sound like a broken record, but I had to choose this song because all the others would just leave me crying like a gay mess. Perfume Genius has a way with lyrics that just taps into fluidity and queerness unlike any other, and this new song ‘Describe’ is magic.

Laura Jane Grace (from Against Me!)

Laura Jane Grace is an absolute powerhouse in the rock genre, and ‘FUCKMYLIFE666’ came out and completely changed the game alongside its album home Transgender Dysphoria Blues. An absolutely incredible project that you simply must check out.

Orville Peck

Gay cowboy breakup song? Yes, please.

King Princess

Described by King Princess herself as a bottom anthem, this track absolutely slaps, and deserves all the attention in the world.

Starley

This song is beautiful and so is Starley. The best part is that Starley is an Australian singer-songwriter, and if you ever get the chance to catch her live, I thoroughly recommend it, she is amazing.

Kehlani

It is just pure fact that when Kehlani dropped this track, the rates of people who became members of the LGBTQ+ dramatically increased. Her impact is just like that y’know.

SOPHIE

Trans producer SOPHIE makes bop after bop after bop. If you aren’t on board with how incredible the discography of SOPHIE is, what are you waiting for?

Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae deserves the recognition as a queer icon that she is very slowly starting to get. We need her in our lives.

Dorian Electra

Blurring the lines of gender and presentation, Dorian Electra has the aesthetic that most people wish they could pull off. ‘Flamboyant’ is an incredible track that will absolutely energise the folks at your Mardi Gras festivities.
