The label head of Juice WRLD, Lil Bibby, has revealed that the late rapper was finally going to go to rehab just days before his death.
The rising rapper passed away on December 8th, 2019, after suffering a seizure in a Chicago airport. Later tests revealed that he died of an accidental overdose, with both oxycodone and codeine found in his system.
Now, tragically it seems like Juice was so close to getting help before his untimely passing. As per NME, Lil Bibby, the label head at Grade A Productions, discussed Juice’s rehab plans during a recent interview with VladTV.
After discovering that the rapper was doing multiple doses of Percocets around a week prior to his death, Lil Bibby and the rest of his team staged an intervention and it was here that Juice finally agreed to try rehab.
“We already had him signed up for rehab,” Lil Bibby said. “He agreed to do — because that was like pulling teeth with him. I found out that he was doing four (Percocets at a time). So I get to freaking out. Like, ‘What the fuck.’ I get to telling people like, ‘Look we got to send this kid to rehab.’ I’m telling everyone because I’m thinking ‘That’s a lot.’ Because all people I know only do at the max one…and these is the 30s.”
Although Juice agreed to rehab, he also told his team that he wouldn’t cease his drug use completely immediately. “He said, ‘Alright, I’ll go. I’ll go,’” Lil Bibby said. “‘But I’m not stopping.’ Like, ‘I’ll lower my dosage…but I like doing it too much.’”
It’s a familiar tale to anyone who’s struggled with or known someone who’s struggled with addiction. And although it’s a case of ‘what if’, Lil Bibby’s rehab revelation will be of little solace to Juice fans and his family.
