It’s a been a long time coming, but the official tour behind Mallrat’s 2019 EP Driving Music has now been announced. Mallrat recently bagged bronze spot in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2019 with the record’s lead single ‘Charlie’.

Mallrat has already been announced on the Groovin the Moo 2020 lineup. Her headline shows will occur immediately after the festival’s completion in mid-May. She’ll be taking over theatre venues in Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

Mallrat is the project of Brisbane musician Grace Shaw. She’s become a fixture of the Australian indie scene in the last couple of years, initially grabbing attention with the 2017 single ‘Better’. Given her blossoming profile, it’s crazy to realise Shaw is still only 21 years old.

‘Better’ later appeared on 2018’s In the Sky EP. It was Mallrat’s second EP, but it’s the one that cemented her as a triple j and festival favourite. The singles ‘UFO’ (feat. Allday) and ‘Groceries’ were both extremely well received, with the latter attaining ARIA Platinum certification. ‘Groceries’ also made it to number seven in 2018’s Hottest 100 countdown.

‘Charlie’ arrived in August 2019 and it was exactly what listeners had been waiting for. The track currently has more than 10m Spotify streams and was an unwearying triple j jewel in the second half of 2019. Driving Music came out the following month and continued Shaw’s upward trajectory.

International listeners aren’t missing out, either. In October Mallrat performed ‘Charlie’ on US TV’s The Late Late Show with James Corden. She’s also done a bunch of US and EU touring, playing with the likes of Maggie Rogers, King Princess and old pal Allday.
