Keen to get back to the concerts? Well, they might not be our normal rough and tumble that we’re used to, as moshing and crowdsurfing won’t adhere to distancing regulations.
We’ve seen a lot of news about what the future holds for the return of live concerts. Denmark has started having drive-in concerts, it’s been suggested that we attend in space suits, and many health officials say that we shouldn’t have any until there’s a vaccine against COVID-19.
Now, the Event Safety Alliance have shared how regulations of live events could impact the future of concerts, especially for the events that return first. Steven Adelman and Jacob Worek of the nonprofit shared their ideas for a safety and regulations guide to over 400 promoters and Ticketmaster employees.
The near 30 page guide goes over a long list of regulations that should be put into place for the return of concerts and large scale events, including sanitising practices, and how to handle staff and guest illnesses, in addition to rules that punters will need to follow during general admission events.
“A few obvious changes will be necessary whenever GA events do reopen,” the guide details. “Patrons cannot all stand at the front of the stage like they are accustomed; moshing and crowdsurfing are violations of social distancing, per se, and must be absolutely prohibited during this pandemic.”
So, for us who are keen to get all rough and sweaty with a bunch of like-minded music fans, it may be a while before everything is back to normal. The Event Safety Alliance has also detailed other measures across the board including contactless merch purchasing, and deciding to stagger entry times for venues.
Would you be keen to go to a concert with all these regulations in place? With many fans eager to get back to the live music scene, specifically the centre of a mosh pit, with regulations like these in place, our proper music experience could still be stunted for a while.
