Paul McCartney
New

This October will see the release of Sir Paul McCartney’s first album of brand new solo material in six years. Discussing New, the legendary ex-Beatle says: “It’s funny, when I play people the album they’re surprised it’s me. A lot of the tracks are quite varied and not necessarily in a style you’d recognise as mine. I didn’t want it to all sound the same. I really enjoyed making this album. It’s always great to get a chance to get into the studio with a bunch of new songs and I was lucky to work with some very cool producers. We had a lot of fun.”

New, McCartney’s 16th solo release, was executive produced by Giles Martin and mixed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent, and also saw McCartney working with a mix of talented producers, including Paul Epworth, Mark Ronson, and Ethan Johns

“The original idea was to go to a couple of producers whose work I loved, to see who I got on with best,” says McCartney, “but it turned out I got on with all of them! We made something really different with each producer, so I couldn’t choose and ended up working with all four. We just had a good time in different ways.”

The album was recorded at Henson Recording Studios, Los Angeles; Avatar Studios, New York; Abbey Road Studios, London; Air Studios, London; Wolf Tone Studios, London and Hog Hill Mill, East Sussex.

Spiderbait
TBA

Spiderbait have announced the release of their first studio album in nine years. After offering fans a first taste with lead single ‘Straight Through The Sun’ as an exclusive free download, the new Spiderbait album will land in November.

Forming in 1989, Spiderbait (Janet English, Kram, and Damian Whitty) have sold over half a million albums to date with 5 Top 20 albums in Australia. In 1996 the band took out the top spot on Triple J’s Hottest 100 with ‘Buy Me A Pony’, the first time an Australian band achieved such a feat. They have since won 2 ARIA Awards, been nominated for 19 ARIA Awards, and scored a #1 ARIA chart single with their legendary track “Black Betty”.

“Straight Through The Sun’ was the first song I wrote for the album”, says Kram, who produced the track himself. “I was jamming in a garage a lot with my old 4 track and playing lots of drums, getting back into old epic psychedelic rock in a big way. It was a bit like the song had been waiting there for me. The lyrics just came to me too, I’ve always liked the Phoenix as a concept – born again from the ashes and then perish in fire – Awesome. Epic. and it seemed to fit the tune”

Spiderbait’s new album is out November 15th 2013

Cut Copy
Free Your Mind

Following on from sending fans on a worldwide chase to hear their new single, ‘Free Your Mind’, in a guerilla marketing campaign and again inventively releasing a new song exclusively through vinyl pressing and an epilepsy-inducing music video, Cut Copy have announced the details for their brand new studio album.

In a few short years, Cut Copy have grown from a bedroom project to an international festival staple that never fails to leave thousands enraptured. Their vision is clearer than ever before on their fourth album, Free Your Mind, due out Friday 1 November on Modular Recordings.

The follow-up to the Grammy-nominated and ARIA Award-winning Zonoscope was recorded in the band’s hometown of Melbourne, and produced by Cut Copy frontman Dan Whitford. The band then decamped to upstate New York, where mixer Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, The Flaming Lips) added extra sonic wizardry.

The record was strongly influenced by the two “Summers of Love,” which were birthed from burdening times – Vietnam and 10 years of Thatcher’s reign – though they were one hell of a party. Through unprecedented explosions of youth culture, communal elation and celebration, these eras provided a spirit that the band embraced – the need to tear down the walls of perception while creating a fantasy of what the next youth revolution might sound like. Whitford explains, “The concept of freedom is one that’s universally positive and timeless, and whatever each person’s version of that freedom is, it’s a good thing to be reminding ourselves to be free.”

Seabellies
Fever Belle

Seabellies are thrilled to announce the release date of their forthcoming sophomore album Fever Belle – out October 18 via Permanent/Shock Records.

Fever Belle follows 2010’s critically acclaimed debut LP By Limbo Lake. After the success of their first album, the band simultaneously set off to different parts of the world in source of inspiration for new songs. In the European summer of 2011, they all found themselves in Berlin and began working on new material. Simon Berkleman (Philadelphia Grand Jury) and revered Australian producer Tim Whitten (The Go-Betweens, Powderfinger, Augie March) were enlisted for the project – the result is a diverse and highly autobiographical album, strongly influenced by the surroundings they inhabited during the writing and recording period in Melbourne, Sydney & Berlin.

Since their beginnings in 2006, the Newcastle five-piece have earned their musical stripes touring with the likes of The Pixies, Phoenix, Groove Armada and Soulwax, as well as their own headline tour dates and countless festival appearances.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Blue Record

It’s been a very big year for Unknown Mortal Orchestra including the release of their LP, II, a performance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon in February, and they just finished up a huge summer tour.

Now UMO announce the release of Blue Record, an acoustic album expanding on II and including a cover of Dirty Projectors‘ “Swing Lo Magellan” (which you can listen to here) and is to be released digitally on October 29th, as well as on limited blue vinyl on the band’s upcoming US tour.

Speaking on the new EP, frontman Ruban Nielson said: “I only started playing the acoustic guitar last year. I’d always preferred the idea that the guitar converts a sound into voltage and then becomes really loud. I thought the acoustic guitar was a little bit too twee for me or something. But after being offered some opportunities to play various acoustic sessions to promote the new record, in situations where it wasn’t possible to record the whole band, I decided to treat it like a challenge to try and play acoustic and not have it be lame.”

“After all I was really into Arthur Lee’s ability with an acoustic and started wondering if I could make it sound convincing. Anyway, after being somewhat forced to develop some skill on the acoustic through these various radio sessions and things like that I decided to record some songs acoustically and release them since people seemed to be liking the way I was doing it. Everything was recorded straight to tape in my basement with a one mic set up.”

Blue Record is out October 29th 2013  through Jagjaguwar

2. Faded In The Morning (Acoustic Version)
