Andrew Stockdale was to embark on his nationwide solo tour this month to promote the release of his first post-Wolfmother album under his own name, Keep Moving, but today has pulled the plug on the entire, just one day before it was to kick off at the University of Newcastle’s Bar on the Hill.
A press statement from promoters issued this afternoon gives little detail as to the reason for the late-minute postponement, that reads: “The current dates for the Andrew Stockdale Australian tour have been postponed due to international commitments based with the release of the new album.”
Continuing to state: “Although we have tried to make the dates work, the schedules have unfortunately clashed for June. We apologise to all fans however the good news is that the tour is being re-scheduled right now and we will announce revised dates shortly.”
Andrew Stockdale and his band will still perform as scheduled at The Metro in Sydney this Friday 7th of June, “to celebrate the official Australian date of release for Keep Moving,” reads the press statement. All international touring dates in the US and Europe remain unchanged.
After declaring that Wolfmother’s long-awaited third album was “nearly finished,” late last year, Stockdale eventually broke the news that Wolfmother would no longer exist and that Keep Moving would mark Stockdales’ debut solo album.
Stockdale made the surprisingly low key announcement that the Wolfmother name would be retired in an interview with Melbourne’s Herald Sun, revealing that the public’s last chance to see the group will be at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl supporting Aerosmith last April.
Keep Moving marks the first new material from the former Wolfmother frontman since the band’s 2009 sophomore album Cosmic Egg, and was preceded by an EP of the same name ahead of this Friday’s June release.
In a recent video interview with Tone Deaf, Stockdale said the decision to retire Wolfmother and name change was a collaborative decision and part of a mellower lifestyle after the rock frontman had relocated to Byron Bay to be nearer to his daughter earlier in the year.
