The Soundwave 2014 lineup is about to get bigger thanks to the addition of a batch of new bands on the second lineup announcement, but not before the Vans Warped Tour gets its own lineup additions this week.

After an intense month that saw the official cancellation of Harvest Festival and buying into co-presenting the Big Day Out, Soundwave boss AJ Maddah has gotten back to the business of sorting out the details for his other flagship festivals, whose own lineup additions were forced to wait while a number of headline tours were organised to replace Harvest, (some delayed until next year).

First off the mark will be a ream of punk and heavy acts for the much-delayed second Vans Warped Tour 2013 lineup announcement. Though originally due to drop in September, and then early October, Maddah recently confirmed that the list of bands that are joining The Offspring, Simple Plan, Parkway Drive, New Found Glory, The Used for the festival bill this November and December is now due this Friday 18th October.

As for who to expect on the second Warped Tour 2013 lineup announcement, Maddah recently revealed he’d held off in order to “shoe-horn” Millencolin into the Warped bill, saying last month that he was waiting on the punk pop Swedes, who last year celebrated their 20th anniversary, to give him an answer “1 way or the other.”

So while Millencolin’s presence is still 50/50, Canberra band Hands Like Houses let slip of their involvement on the Warped Tour lineup alongside their touring partners Tonight Alive, who were already confirmed among the 18 bands for Warped when it was first announced last July.

Hands Like Houses are also pegged as one of a “load of locals” promised on the second Warped lineup announcement, and in fact the festival put out an open call for recommendations for Aussie bands for each of Warped’s six dates this November/December, including the newly upgraded Melbourne leg – moving to Flemington Racecourse (on the same day of Stereosonic 2013).

Maddah has also said to “expect another 4 or 5 internationals” added, aside from the possibility of Millencolin, that include polarising punk outfit Falling In Reverse, who could be announced for the Warped bill (or possibly the Soundwave 2014 lineup) “when visas are 100% approved,” tweeted Maddah recently. Reel Big Fish have also been rumoured since the band revealed plans earlier this month to return to Australia, but have yet to confirm any dates on their official tour page, with a Warped sized gap conceivably squeezing in-between gigs booked in for Pittsburgh (in mid-November) and Honolulu (mid-December)

Following the Warped announcement, Maddah has confirmed plans to drop the second Soundwave 2014 lineup announcement in the “1st week of Nov.”

As previously reported, the second Soundwave 2014 lineup announcement will add “20 bands” in the words of Maddah, including a third headliner to join Green Day and Avenged Sevenfold in heading the bill. There’s a chance that Iron Maiden could be the third headliner, with Maddah in talks with the band since July about a possible Australian visit from the metal legends, while the likes of Black Veil Brides, Dillinger Escape Plan, Jimmy Eat World, and Panic! At The Disco are rumoured as well.

In addition to ruling out Soundgarden, Rammstein, Bullet For My Valentine, Slipknot, and Rage Against The Machine, recent tweets from the Soundwave boss have put the kibosh on Def Leppard (“If they played they would be about 12th on a typical SW bill. And no, I would not book them.”), while cryptically putting chart-topping Perth prog specialists Karnivool in the mix, (“not likely at this point but not totally out of the question either”).

Other bands that are likely to appear on the second Soundwave 2014 lineup announcement include Scar The Martyr, the side-project from Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison, local thrash heroes king Parrot, as well as Newcastle ska band The Porkersraucous Melbourne rockers The Bennies, Swedish glam metal outfit Crashdiet. All three have yet to officially appear on the Soundwave 2014 lineup, despite each confirming their place on the tour ahead of the official lineup announcement.

Funk metal eccentrics Primus and New Orleans alt-rock band Mutemath are both expected for the Soundwave bill. Both acts were originally on the Harvest 2013 lineup before it was cancelled and Maddah made plans to shift the festival refugees to the Soundwave 2014 lineup.

Now however, it appears that Mutemah may be out of Soundwave 2014, Maddah hinting that the group could be conducting their own headline tour instead, recently tweeting: “They’ll be out early next year. We’re working out the details.”

There’s an outside chance that Good Charlotte could be on the second Soundwave 2014 lineup announcement as well, with previous reports that Joel Madden was “hustling” to get the pop punks on the bill by rearranging his TV scheduling commitments for The Voicewhen asked if the offer was genuine, Maddah replied simply “deadly serious.”

All will be revealed soon enough. In the mean-time, enjoy the public bromance that’s blossomed between Maddah and his new boss, Big Day Out CEO Adam Zammit:
