The Southbound 2014 set times have been revealed, with the full timetables for two-day sister festival of Falls Festival now locked in.
For Southbound’s 10th Anniversary edition, promoters Sunset Events are expecting more than 10,000 attendees to hit Sir Stewart Bovell Park in Busselton for the impressive bill of 50+ bands and artists.
On Friday 3rd January, festival headliners Vampire Weekend will close the evening on the main stage, preceded by legendary hip hop crew The Roots, Brooklyn royalty Grizzly Bear and a bustling early evening spot from The Cat Empire. Also playing the Sunny Stage on the opening day are Big Scary, Chet Faker, The Preatures, White Denim, and Bonobo.
Over on the Share Stage, things take a more dance-happy turn for the Friday night, with Touch Sensitive, Rufus, !!!, and Flight Facilities rounding out the evening following an afternoon set from iconic songwriter and Smiths guitar slinger, Johnny Marr, while the Coconut Club provides a healthy selection of emerging artists to keep the good vibes going.
The Saturday is equally chock-full of big name artists, MGMT play the main stage, along with The Wombats, Neil Finn, Violent Femmes, and Pond. The Share Stage features Aussie favourites Emma Louise, Wave Racer, Thundamentals, and Hermitude before the (possibly Splendour 2014 bound) London Grammar take over for an evening set, followed by Crystal Fighters.
With the Southbound 2014 set times now released, the timetables for this year’s Falls Festival – featuring many of the acts playing Southbound – can’t be far behind for the event’s three legs in Lorne, Marion Bay, and the newly minted Byron Bay.
Tickets to Southbound 2014 are still available, costing $129 (+ b/f) for a one-day pass, or $185 (+ b/f) for the full weekend, with camping costing an additional $25.
In related news, promoters Sunset Events have faced opposition from local council and residents in Karridale over a proposed moved for the marquee WA music festival away from its Busselton to a bigger location for 2015 and beyond. Sunset Events’ Southbound application to Augusta Margaret River Shire Council is for two four-day events, expected to draw up to 20,000 attendees, and another for a single day and night event.
