Reports continues to fly in from well-seasoned speculators, ‘industry insiders’, and anonymous bloggers about who will be gracing the stages of Big Day Out 2012, arguably the biggest live music event of the year.
Eminem recently announced a 2 date tour of Australia in December so the chances he’ll return for the festival are next to nothing, however rumours of Queens Of The Stone Age, Prince, and Kasabian continue to float about.
Added to that list are My Chemical Romance when on radio this morning music reporter Nui Te Koha said “Let’s put My Chemical Romance on the table for the BDO. That’s pretty much secured.” We can’t help but wonder if anybody would be interested in seeing My Chemical Romance given most of their fans have probably cut off their emo haircut, which was clearly affecting the part their brain associated with music taste.
Te Koha has also predicted Foster the People, The Shins and Cage The Elephant for 2012.
Another interesting development is a Twitter feed that popped up just yesterday under the highly original name ‘BigDayOutSpy’. The spy had been teasing us with a trivia quiz to work out which bands were confirmed but has since come up with The Decemberists, Florence and the Machine, Josh Pyke, The Vaccines and Boy and Bear.
Given the official Big Day Out Facebook page immediately dismissed such rumours and denied any association with the twitter account we’d be taking anything it says with a grain of salt. For all we know it could just be some 12 year old kid up to his eyeballs on ritalin with way too much time on his hands.
Or if you want to be even more cynical, it could be the work of a music publication looking to stir up something up on a slow newsday. Just saying.
