The Offspring’s Dexter Holland has opened up about the group’s new record, clarifying reports that the new album was all done and dusted.

For quite a while now, we’ve been wondering when The Offspring might release a new record. In fact, back in April of last year, the group said they would “definitely” unleash album number 10 in 2018.

However, things seemed to change, with guitarist Noodles telling Tone Deaf late last year that now only was the new album still on the way, but they had been “looking at making two records” instead.

Then last month, we received the biggest news to date, with Noodles revealing to fans that “the album is done,” and that they were “working on getting it to the fans now.”

However, in a recent interview with Kerrang!, frontman Dexter Holland has clarified the status of the album’s progress, adding that it’s going sound like a bit of a throwback.

It sounds like our old shit! That’s what I’m supposed to say, right?” Holland explained. “I don’t really know how to describe it.”

“I guess it’s punk rock, but then we throw in a couple of songs that aren’t what you’d normally predict. We have a lot of really fast stuff on there, plus a couple of things that you might not really expect from us.”

“But I’m really really happy with it,” he continued. “It’s not completely finished, but it is 98% finished. So we’re trying to put together a plan to release it.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Dexter Holland confirmed Noodles’ statements last year that the band are without a record label and are looking for a way to release their new album.

We were on Sony ever since Ixnay [On The Hombre] – and we finished out our contact,” Holland explained. “We did, like, seven records for them. We’ve got to be the only band that’s ever finished out a record contract without being dropped by their record label. We didn’t get dropped, we just finished!”

“But then we took a couple of years off because I wanted to go back to school, but now it’s, like, ‘We’re back! Anybody want to sign us up!’”

While we wait to see just when we might receive The Offspring’s new album, take a look back at the band’s recent effort to top the re-voted Hottest 100 of 1998 once again.
