Metal pioneer and genetic mutant Ozzy Osbourne has opened up about his recent health scares, explaining what went on behind the scenes during his extensive period of recovery.

When you take a look back at the life that Ozzy Osbourne has led, you could be forgiven for wondering just how the hell he is still alive.

Although a recent DNA study has claimed his longevity is due to a genetic mutation of sorts, this year hasn’t exactly been kind to the famed vocalist.

Last year, Osbourne was forced to cancel shows after he contracted what turned out to be a potentially-deadly staph infection. Sadly, the bad news kept on coming, with the rocker contracting the flu, and then pneumonia, and eventually being forced to not only cancel his Australian appearances, but also the entirety of his 2019 tour following a fall.

Now, in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Ozzy has opened up about the challenges he has faced over the last year, including the slow-going recovery process.

“For the first, say, four months, I was absolutely in agony,” Osbourne explained, referring to the complications of this year’s fall. “I was in agony beyond anything I ever experienced before in my life. It was awful.

“I’m taking physical and occupational therapy classes, but the progress is very slow. They say it’s going to take at least a year. I’m hoping that I’ll be okay and ready to go by January [when the tour resumes]. I’m really keeping my fingers crossed.”

Throughout the interview, Ozzy Osbourne touched upon the fact that he was not only forced to undergo neck and spine surgery, but has now had to take blood thinners to combat blood clots in his legs.

“I cannot describe to you the helpless feeling that I had,” he explained of his time in hospital. “The nurse told me, I have to be careful if I bang myself, because there’s a blood clot and all that shit.

“It’s scary stuff … From 40 [years old] to 70 was okay and suddenly you get to 70 and everything caved in on me.”

Despite his health problems and the ongoing recovery process he has been forced to endure, Ozzy says he’s feeling pretty confident he can hit the road again early next year.

“My date is January, I hope to fucking God, ’cause I’m gonna go fucking nuts,” he explained. “We’re just keeping our fingers crossed. It’s like making a sculpture. You chip away at it and it turns into this thing. You have to resculpture your life again.”

While Ozzy Osbourne is hoping to resume his touring early next year, there is currently no word a to whether his cancelled appearances at the 2019 Download Festival will be rescheduled.
