16 months on from the passing of music legend Tom Petty, fans have received a previously-unheard tune from the rocker.
Back in October of 2017, music fans were undoubtedly shocked to learn of the passing of Tom Petty.
Having risen to fame during the ’70s with The Heartbreakers, Petty was a musical icon, collaborating with the likes of Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, and Jeff Lynne as part of The Traveling Wilburys.
While 2018 brought with it a number of intriguing things for Petty’s fans, including a park in his hometown being named after him, and a box set of unreleased music, it seems there’s still more left in the vaults.
As Rolling Stone reports, a new Tom Petty compilation is set to be released next month, collecting a number of the rocker’s greatest hits.
Titled The Best Of Everything (after his 1985 song of the same name), the two-disc compilation is set to feature tracks from Petty’s solo work, his music with The Heartbreakers, and Mudcrutch.
However, it also includes one previously-unreleased solo track as well.
Named ‘For Real’, the tune was recorded back in 2000 during a time when Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers entered the studio to record a new version of ‘Surrender’ for the Anthology: Through the Years compilation album.
A poignant and emotional track, ‘For Real’ proves that some of Tom Petty’s best work is yet to be heard by most devoted fans, who are undoubtedly wondering what other gems are still in the vault.
In related news, Tom Petty’s news recently entered the mainstream consciousness again when Cardi B thanked the late rocker for sending her flowers following her winning of the Best Rap Album award at the Grammys.
The Best Of Everything is set to be released on March 11th.
