The mighty Slayer have taken their last bow, performing their highly-anticipated final show in Los Angeles over the weekend.

For close to two years now, metal fans the world over have dreaded this past weekend as the date which would see thrash metal legends Slayer call it quits.

Having announced their impending retirement early last year, the band have been busy ever since, touring the world as part of their final jaunt, and even performing their last-ever Australian shows earlier this year.

While theories about the band’s future have surfaced on numerous occasions, November 29th and 30th marked the final dates of the band’s career, with two sold-out shows taking place at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.

Taking it back to where it all began, Slayer took to the stage on Saturday night to wrap up their touring life, with a cavalcade of famous faces backstage.

According to pictures shared online, fans and colleagues of the band were also in attendance, including actor Jason Momoa, King Diamond, Post Malone, Scott Ian and Charlie Benante of Anthrax, and even Kirk Hammett of Metallica.

Onstage though, it was business as usual for the group, kicking things off with the mighty ‘South Of Heaven’, and powering through a blistering 20-song set that showcased their finest material.

Wrapping things up with ‘Angel Of Death’, the group hung around for quite some time while fans cheered, and band members hugged and celebrated their last stand.

“Thank you. Thank you very much. I want to thank you for sharing your time with us,” a clearly emotional Tom Araya stated to the crowd at the end of the show. “Time is precious, so I thank you for sharing that time with us.

“I’m gonna miss you guys. But the most important thing is I want to thank you for being a part of my life. Goodnight. You guys be safe.”

While it remains to be seen if any archival releases from Slayer are set to see the light of day, it appears as though we can now shut the book on the band’s history for good.
