Slipknot seem to be gearing up to release new music, launching a mysterious countdown on their website recently.

Slipknot are gearing up to make their live return later this week, performing their first set in three years on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Friday.

While the group are planning to release their new album in August, we’ve so far just received one new track, ‘All Out Life’, which was released back in October.

With Slipknot set to return to the live stage, questions have begun to circulate. Will we see their new masks? Will we hear ‘All Out Life’ performed? Or will we hear all new music?

Now, it appears that the last question might just be the most applicable.

Taking to Twitter today, Slipknot shared a brief video filled with atmospheric music and enigmatic footage that shows the group wearing their new masks.

Captioned by the phrase “We are not you kind” (which are lyrics from ‘All Out Life’), the group also linked to their official website, where similar footage can be found.

A numerical counter can also be found on the site, counting up from zero before stopping on ‘0516’. Understandably, fans have begun to assume this indicates that either new music, or an announcement of some kind, will be coming on May 16th – the day before the group hit up Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Of course, for fans in the southern hemisphere, this will most likely mean we’ll have to wait until Friday to see what this new announcement is.

In related news, frontman Corey Taylor recently underwent emergency surgery on both of his knees, sharing a message to fans to tell them his recovery is tracking well, and that he’s already in rehearsals for this week’s performance.

With Slipknot’s sixth album set for release on August 9th, the band are set to head to Australia not long after, heading down under for a massive tour with Metallica. Check out all the details below!
