Smash Mouth have thrown their hat in the ring for a new Lil Nas X remix, seemingly showing their ambition to desire to collaborate with the ‘Old Town Road’ chart-topper.

If you’ve been anywhere near a radio in the last few months, the chances are close to perfect that you’ve heard ‘Old Town Road’.

First released by Lil Nas X late in 2018, the track shot to popularity earlier this year and was soon met with controversy after it was removed from the Billboard Country Charts.

However, despite giving Nine Inch Nails their first-ever #1 hit in the process, the track continues to evolve and adapt, thanks in part to a number of remixes.

After first being remixed and re-released with Billy Ray Cyrus in April, Diplo soon joined the tune later in the month, before Yung Thug and Mason Ramsey appeared on the latest version just last week.

By the looks of it though, Lil Nas X has got more than just horses in the back, with artists lining up down the block to work with him.

Taking to Twitter Friday night, Lil Nas X shared a message that read, “I act like im ok but deep down inside i wanna release another old town road remix.”

Of course, fans were quick to join in on this notion, suggesting the likes of Billie Eilish, BTS, Post Malone, and more, none other than Smash Mouth soon found themselves volunteering themselves for collab duties.

Simply writing the message “let’s do it” earlier today, there’s no word yet if Lil Nas X is onboard with the idea, however, fans have already shown their support, including one who noted such a crossover “will cause the universe to implode”, and another who simply wrote “somebody once told me the road was kinda oldy.”

Similarly, Mariah Carey also appeared to be in the sights of Lil Nas X, with the rapper making an appeal to the pop icon yesterday morning, only to have Carey respond positively with an image of herself wearing a cowboy hat.

Whatever the case, it appears that Lil Nas X will likely be the subject of remixes for many months to come, so it might be best to sit back and enjoy the ride down the dusty trails of the ‘Old Town Road’.
