It’s one of the most anticipated collabs we’ve heard of for some time, and now Theophilus London and Tame Impala have officially premiered new music.
Over the weekend, we caught wind of how Tame Impala and Theophilus London were set to perform an intimate gig under the name of Theo Impala this week, where they would premiere new tunes. With Kevin Parker having produced London’s 2016 tune ‘Whiplash’, fans already had an idea of what to expect, but were eager to see what a full collab sounded like.
As Stereogum reports, the pair teamed up for their Theo Impala show at Los Angeles’ Peppermint Club on Tuesday night, where fans were treated to the premiere of some fresh new jams.
While no setlist has surfaced just yet, it appears as though only a couple of new songs were actually premiered – with one of them ostensibly titled ‘The New LA’. While Kevin Parker took over the keyboard, his psychedelic vocals were joined by Theophilus London’s verbose rapping, making for one hell of a pairing.
As Theophilus London has hinted, these new tracks look set to appear on his forthcoming album, BeBey, which he has promised is coming soon. Likewise, an Instagram caption for these live performances has seen London promise that official video of the Theo Impala show is set to be released in a couple of days, alongside the official release of these new singles.
While we’re not too sure when exactly these tracks will be arriving, we can say with certainty that Kevin Parker is making a habit of collaborating with some absolute legends.
Just a few weeks ago, Parker noted how his dream collaboration had always been Kanye West, but now that he’s ticked that one off the bucket list, he’s moved Daft Punk’s name to the top. Whether or not we’ll receive a Daft Impala (or Tame Punk) collab remains to be seen, but we’re certain it’ll sound just as mindblowing as you’d expect it to.
