Sunshine Coast rockers The Chats have continued their stunning hot streak, releasing their latest song ‘Identity Theft’ and announcing a run of national tour dates.

If you had asked the members of The Chats five years ago where they would be in 2019, their responses likely would have been the complete opposite of what their reality is.

Having come to worldwide attention with the infuriatingly-catchy ‘Smoko’, the group soon caught the attention of the likes of Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age and Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters.

Before long, they were supporting the likes of QOTSA and Iggy Pop, and selling out dates in the UK in record time.

Throw in the release of tracks like ‘Pub Feed’, and the fact they’ve been rubbing shoulders with the likes of the Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong (who they dubbed “Billy Joel”), and you’ve got one Aussie band that deserves your attention.

Now, the group have continued doing what they do best, releasing their latest single ‘Identity Theft’ earlier today.

Premiering on triple j’s Good Nights last night, the track is one of only a handful that starts with the intriguing phrase “I was paying for drugs on the Internet,” and continues in a manner you could only expect.

Yes, slinging exceptional riffs and solos at every turn, ‘Identity Theft’ tells the story of getting your identity stolen, only to have the hackers implicate you in a robbery, and even snap a pic of some ritualistic self abuse in front of the webcam.

Accompanied by a delightfully retro video directed by Matt Weston, the tune shows The Chats at their best, and is a fiery indicator of just how much of an instant classic their forthcoming album is set to be.

With the new tune out today, The Chats have also used this opportunity to announce a brand new Aussie tour, with the Identity Theft Tour kicking off in Wollongong this September, before heading all over the country (and over to New Zealand) over the next month.

Tickets to the tour are on sale now through the band’s website, so don’t miss your chance to catch the group when they hit the road in a couple of months.
