There’s always plenty of concerts and gigs for live music lovers to see all around Australia, so here’s where you get all the latest info on dates, venues, and tickets for announced upcoming tours.
Straight off the bat is a new solo tour from a member of The Growl/Tame Impala/Pond, as well as surprise news from Dream, On Dreamer, dates from Mia Dyson, Rainy Day Women, Luca Brasi, I, A Man, and a new tour from a former member of The Middle East.
Cameron Avery (The Growl) Solo Australian Tour Announced
The Growl frontman (and Tame Impala bassist) Cameron Avery is heading out for a solo national tour through four capital cities to showcase his “capital music” this September. Specifically, Avery will be roadtesting new material for a forthcoming new album from The Growl. “Aesthetically this a massive departure from my debut album. These songs were an outlet,” Avery muses. “Chronological and reflective at the same time kinda. Consider it an expensive and time consuming memoir of the past couple years, sonically shared.”
The new album, two years in the making, features collaborations throughout Avery’s travels from internationally “acclaimed artists from favoured musical hubs like London, Los Angeles, and across Australia.” Joining as support is Spinning Top Music labelmate Shiny Joe Ryan (the solo project of Pond’s drummer), who released his debut LP The Cosmic Microwave Background earlier this year with these being Ryan’s first national solo gigs. A live pairing not to be missed – so don’t!

Mia Dyson Australian Tour 2014
Released in May this year, Idyllwild is Mia Dyson’s “most self-assured collection of songs and stories to date” and now the Melbourne singer-songwriter is taking her latest album on the road as she releases the title track as a stand-alone single. ‘Idyllwild’, the song, tips its ht to a small town outside of LA where Dyson spent an unconventional ‘honeymoon’. Dyson explains: “It was a surreal, utopian journey and out of it came this frenetic, high-spirited song, stylistically influenced by bands from my 80s childhood like Elvis Costello & Talking Heads.” Already a finely-honed live act, be sure to go wild with the celebrated songstress this October and November.

Stolen Violin Australian Tour 2014
Stolen Violin is the solo project of Jordan Ireland, one of the key voices and songwriters for the much-loved The Middle East, spawned last year following the demise of the much-loved Aussie outfit. Centred around Ireland’s gently haunting vocals and deft, moody plucking, Stolen Violin’s tunes recall the literary beauty of Mark Kozelek (of Sun Kil Moon/Red House Painters fame) and even a murkier mode of Augie March. Having issued his sleeper (and sleepy) LP Temperate Touch, Tropical Tears last year, Stolen Violin is now set to perform a series of East Coast tour dates to showcase new material for a forthcoming album, due in early 2015. A rare chance to catch Stolen Violin live, and an even rarer opportunity to hear fresh material? What’s not to like?

I, A Man & Split Seconds Co-Headline Tour Dates
Melbourne’s I, A Man have released new single ‘Minivan’, the latest slice of graceful indie rock lifted from their excellent debut LP, Gravity Wins Again, released in April via the band’s own label, We Swimmers.
To celebrate, the quartet are playing a special pair of co-headline shows with Melbourne-via-Perth Split Seconds next week that also double as launch gigs for ‘Minivan’. There’s also some killer support, with Sydney getting Smaal Cats and Melbourne treated to an opening slot from off-beat Brisbane band Babaganouj. If you’ve yet to be lulled by I, A Man’s charms – there’s no better time or excuse to do so.

Rainy Day Women Australian Tour 2014
Emerging Perth alt-rock outfit Rainy Day Women have announced new national tour dates with Meg Mac, which handily coincide with the release of a new single taken from their forthcoming new album, ‘Mrs Jones’. The single follows on from lead cut ‘Mars’, which signals some intriguing growth from the WAM Award winning ‘Best Pop Act’ since they first signalled their arrival with last year’s ‘Friends’ and ‘Ain’t It Time’. Rainy Day Women play RTRFM’s Radiothon Party at the Bakery on Friday 15th August before heading east to join Meg Mac for sell-out shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
