The wait for the new album from metal icons Tool continues, with the band teasing fans with fresh music ahead of their US tour.

Earlier this week, we passed the 13th anniversary of Tool’s last album, 10,000 Days. Ever since the record was released, fans have been wondering when the band might finally unleash a new collection of stunning songs.

While we managed to receive almost the entirety of Puscifer’s career in that time, along with a new album and live shows from A Perfect Circle, these last few months have indicated that Tool are finally gearing up to unleash their new record.

This time last year, we received a partial snippet of a new track called ‘Descending’, undoubtedly exciting fans with the promise of new material. Since then, things have been quiet in regards to actually hearing fresh material, though the rumour mill has continued.

Earlier this year though, drummer Danny Carey said the band’s new album would arrive in “mid-April”, before Maynard James Keenan clarified things by noting the release date would be “somewhere between Mid May and Mid July. More focused updates to follow as we progress.”

However, the last few weeks have seen the band play to the desires of fans, teasing them with no annual April Fool’s Day prank, and even sharing a few memes on Twitter indicating that new music will eventually arrive.

Now, we’ve received a fresh bit of music thanks to guitarist Adam Jones.

Appearing on Adam Jones’ Instagram account yesterday, the guitarist shared a new take on the previously-teased track ‘Descending’.

While this fresh take on the tune was appreciated by fans, many began looking at the hashtags, which noted phrases such as “The Fasting Is Over”, indicating new music will soon arrive. Fans over on Reddit spotted a since-deleted hashtag of “7/4”, raising a few questions in the process.

Although some surmised this was the track’s time signature, others pointed towards both the American flag in the background, and the fact that “7/4” equates to July 4th as the indicator of a potential release date.

Soon after, the band also shared a new meme on Twitter, noting that they would likely be playing new music on their upcoming tour, which kicks off this weekend in the US.

Finally, the Tool Archive YouTube account also shared a video titled ‘New Tool Album Update May 2019‘, which can basically be summed up by its caption, which notes that “Tool’s new album will be released in May of 2019. Or June. Or July. Or August.”

While we’re obviously still in the dark about when this new material might drop, dedicated fans are undoubtedly getting excited knowing that the band are gearing up to finally release this long-awaited record before too long.
