Jonti loves a big Australian link-up or two. When he last performed at Vivid LIVE back in 2017, the South African-born, Sydney-based multi-instrumentalist sent the watching Sydney Opera House crowd wild with a stunning rendition of The Avalanches‘ utter classic, “Since I Left You”.

This time round, on his return to  Vivid LIVE on Sunday, May 26th, Jonti brought out Genesis Owusu to the surprise and appreciation of those inside Sydney Opera House’s Drama Theatre.

Jonti unveiled a brand-new performance over the weekend, previewing his highly anticipated new album, The Moonblades, which should be one of the most intriguing releases of the year: the album is slated to be inspired “in part by classic movies like The Warriors and The Wanderers.”

Owusu wasn’t the only excellent musician to appear onstage on Sunday evening, with Jonti also being joined by his incredible band consisting of the die youngs, xmunashe., Joshua, and Binghua Wang. Sensational visuals and laser work were also provided by Babekuhl and Alex McCoy.

The Moonblades follows Jonti’s previous album, Tokorats, which was released all the way back in 2017. The guest-heavy collection featured Kirin J Callinan, Sampa the Great, and more.

Jonti first rose to prominence as a solo artist in 2011 when his debut album, Twirligig, impressed listeners in Australia and beyond.

And Jonti hasn’t been limited to merely covering The Avalanches: he appeared on their acclaimed 2016 album Wildflowers, later becoming the beloved electronic group’s touring guitarist.
