Last week it was revealed that Dave Grohl was gearing up to release a documentary about his epic 23-minute instrumental track. Now ‘Play’ is finally out, for your viewing pleasure.
The half-hour documentary is a pilgrimage into the creative process of one of rock’s most influential figures. The video is a celebration of “the rewards and challenges of dedicating ones life to playing music”. It is composed of narrated behind the scenes footage of Grohl in the studio. Showcasing Grohl’s unbridled talent as a multi-instrumentalist as he switches records a single take of seven instruments.
Within the documentary Grohl states that music is “not something that you ever truly master. You’re always chasing the next challenge, and you’re always trying to find a way to improve on what you’ve learned.” It’s a truly riveting watch and a celebration of pure creativity. Check it out below:
