This weekend saw Weezer feature on a brand-new episode of The Simpsons. The cameo saw the band offer a sneak-peek of a brand new song, and release a hair metal-tinged cover of the iconic, Danny Elfman-helmed theme song.

Weezer featuring on an episode of The Simpsons just makes so much sense that I’m surprised it didn’t happen earlier. I can’t think of a more d’oh-core band. The episode, titled The Hateful Eight Year-Olds, saw Rivers Cuomo and the gang take on the role of cover band Sailor’s Delight.

Sailor’s Delight acted as the resident act on a cruise Homer and Marge embarked on. The band performed material from their 2017 record, Pacific Daydream, a rendition of the show’s theme track, and offered a premiere of a brand new cut, Blue Dream’, set to feature on their forthcoming LP, Van Weezer.

Unfortunately, clips of the band’s cameo on the show are yet to surface online, but you can check out their absolutely smashing cover of the theme song below. A word of warning, we guarantee it’ll have you knee-sliding around the house in every lurex clothing item you own.

‘Blue Dream’ is the third cut we’ve heard from the band’s upcoming album, following ‘The End of the Game’, which was released last year, and ‘Hero’, released on May 6th. The band dedicated ‘Hero’ to the essential workers, and those on the frontline during the coronavirus pandemic.

Van Weezer was slated to arrive this month, but the release date has since been postponed amid coronavirus.

“We don’t want to give another release date until we’re absolutely sure of it, we’ll just say ‘stay tuned for more info,’” the band shared in a statement. “In the meantime, we’re working hard on getting you all the new Weezer you can handle including music and more surprises getting announced later this week.”
