It looks like AC/DC are indeed gearing up to release their next record soon, with the band’s longtime engineer confirming the band have been in the studio.
For quite some time now, there’s has been plenty of speculation about whether or not AC/DC are working on a new record.
While rumours about Phil Rudd’s inclusion in the band circulated, so did questions about whether or not vocalist Brian Johnson was set to again lend his iconic pipes to the group in the future.
Before long, it was revealed that not only might Cliff Williams be coming out of retirement for a new album, but it was rumoured that AC/DC’s new record was complete, and featured riffs from late guitarist Malcolm Young.
However, while all of this information was rumoured at best, it stands to reason that fans would like a more concrete update, right? Well, now they’ve finally received what they’ve been after.
Check out Mike Fraser on the Mastering Music Mastering Life podcast:
Speaking to Aussie mastering engineer Tony “Jack The Bear” Mantz on his Mastering Music Mastering Life podcast recently, Canadian engineer Mike Fraser confirmed that AC/DC have indeed been recording in the studio together.
“They found a lot of guys they work with are always trying to change [their sound],” Fraser explained of his work with the band, which has seen him on mastering duties for every record since 2000.
“Lucky for me, I was a huge AC/DC fan, so I kind of knew what it is, and what it should be. I think that sort of helped. They keep coming back to me.”
However, when Mantz asked if the rumours of a new album was true, Fraser was relatively tight-lipped, but managed to let some intriguing info past the keeper.
“Well, yeah, I could say that we’ve been in the studio doing something,” Fraser revealed. “What’s come of that I can’t discuss yet.”
Likewise, when pushed for info about whether the supposed record would feature Brian Johnson on vocals, Fraser gave a rather noncommittal “I think so” in response.
While it will obviously be quite a while still before we hear any new music from AC/DC, it’s undoubtedly heartening for fans to know that the band are indeed in the studio again, and that the new record might not be the Axl/DC album that has been rumoured for some time.
