One year on from the incident that saw a Slayer fan attempt to swim back to a gig after being kicked out, that same fan has now been immortalised on a beer can.
Back in May of 2018, Slayer found themselves performing at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto, Canada as part of their farewell tour.
Performing alongside the likes of Testament, Behemoth, Anthrax, and Lamb Of God, this gig was a metal-lover’s dream, but after one fan got booted from the venue for being inebriated, he decided to take matters into his own hands.
“I was a little inebriated, not like fall-down drunk or nothing, but I was feeling pretty good,” explained LaRocque to Exclaim shortly after the incident. “I was just like headbanging and moshing around a little bit. I was pretty bummed.”
Noticing that the venue was surrounded on all sides by Lake Ontario, dedicated fan Chris LaRocque decided to put conventional wisdom to one side and attempted to swim back into the venue.
“I wasn’t going fast,” he explained of the icy dip. “I was just trying to be incognito — I had my camouflage hat on, so I thought that might help.”
Unfortunately, security took matters into their hands, and decided to boot LaRocque from the venue once and for all, despite efforts from Slayer’s Gary Holt to allow him back.
Now, it appears that this iconic piece of musical dedication has been immortalised on a beer can.
Taking to Facebook yesterday, Chris LaRocque revealed that the folks at Budweiser had paid tribute to the venue with their new can design.
Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the venue, the design honours 25 acts who performed there over the years. Of course, LaRocque managed to get an inclusion, appearing at the bottom of the can, half-submerged in water while wearing his Anthrax shirt.
“So, I guess I made it on a beer can lable [sic],” he wrote on Facebook. “I wonder if I can get free beer?”
In related news, Slayer recently shared a mysterious video teasing their “final chapter”. While it’s not clear what this is referring to, a recently-leaked Las Vegas date seems to indicate that the band are gearing up to announce their final-ever round of US tour dates.
