Grimes has unveiled an intense full back tattoo, a design that she has poetically called her “beautiful alien scars.”

She posted the picture of her new full back tattoo over the weekend. No stranger to the art form, the rest of her tats are sure to be kind of lost under the immensity of this back transformation now.

“Don’t have a good pic cuz it hurts too much and I need to sleep haha, and it’ll be red for a few wks , but gna be beautiful alien scars,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

As per Stereogum, the piece was designed by Nusi Quero and tattoo artist @tweakt, who both shared more pictures and information on social media.

Quero wrote the following on Twitter: “Last night we co-designed a full back tattoo (w my brilliant friend Tweakz) for @Grimezsz. It was half hand drawn then half procedurally generated, then they banged out the whole thing in 1 go. Such a beautiful experience and talisman 4 her world. Electric energy is abuzz.”

And judging by his Twitter thread, the design was immensely detailed.

In an Instagram story, he also called the tattoo “a courageous and beautiful decision and Talisman she will carry with her from here forward, an armor, a spectral field that will affect and protect her in ways unknown but no doubt with a benevolence of some kind.”

Truthfully there’s always been something otherworldly about Grimes, from her strange electro-pop to her alien-like appearance so this just feels like the icing on the cake.

And considering that her partner Elon Musk cryptically tweeted a few days ago “…going to moon very soon”, maybe there’s a deeper meaning to why she got this tattoo…

Whatever you think of the star, though, there’s no denying that the “alien scars” are pretty damn cool to look at. At the very least, it was undoubtedly cheaper than the ridiculous amount Lil Uzi Vert paid to have THAT giant pink diamond installed in his forehead.
