Harry Styles really knows what makes for a great viral moment, doesn’t he? During his Madison Square Garden concert this weekend, he dressed up as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, performing the film’s classic song ‘Over the Rainbow’.

Currently on his Love On Tour and performing at New York City’s MSG for a second night, the pop star decided to treat fans in the audience to something a bit unexpected.

To celebrate Halloween, or ‘Harryween’ as he decided to cleverly dub it, Styles came out dressed as Dorothy – bow tie, red tights, frilly blue dress, sparkling red shoes, the works. There was even a basket containing a stuffed Toto, an absolute must.

“Growing up in England, we like Halloween,” Styles told the audience at the start of the show. “”But we definitely didn’t get into it like you do.” He also exclaimed happily to the MSG crowd that he looked “cute” in his Halloween outfit.

Fans were understandably ecstatic at his commitment to the Halloween festivities – a huge event in the U.S. every year – with fan footage of his outfit and performance filling social media afterwards.

After mainly performing songs from his latest album, Fine Line, it was the cover of ‘Over the Rainbow’ that got everyone talking. Forever associated with Judy Garland – and a difficult song to master – Styles did his best with it, hitting the high notes and handling the key change with ease. The MSG ceiling even lit up in rainbow colours for the occasion.

As good as Styles looked as Dorothy though, it was nowhere near the best celebrity Halloween costume this weekend for my money I’m afraid. That award surely has to go Lizzo, who was completely transformed as the beloved Baby Yoda. Just see for yourself:
