Laneway Festival 2014 is just under a month away and the annual indie music event has sold out two of its five legs while announcing details of the addition of a new stage.

The Melbourne leg of Laneway 2014 has now completely sold out, with all tickets to the event – held at the Footscray Community Arts Center and River’s Edge on Saturday 1st February – now exhausted.

The Melbourne date now joins the sold out Sydney leg, which finished its allocation just before Christmas shortly after a spat with a Greens-led lobbyist group that had opposed the festival’s application to increase its capacity.

Set to be held at the Sydney Collge Of The Arts in Rozelle on Sunday 2nd February, Laneway’s application to increase its attendance size to a potential 12,500 patrons, up from last year’s 8,000, at the Callan Park site was the target of the Friends of Callan Park group, described by ‘Annandale Mayor‘ Darcy Byrne as “self-appointed fun police [that] are trying to shut it down.”

But following a council meeting in early December with promoters Michael Chugg and Danny Rogers in attendance, Laneway emerged victorious with its capacity increased, then went on to announce the addition of new bands to the Laneway 2014 lineup in the form of the Triple J Unearthed competition winners.

Festival organisers have now also revealed that the 2014 edition will once again be partnering with “longstanding pals” Red Bull Music Academy and Sydney label Future Classic to present a showcase of Laneway’s best electronic and hip hop acts on the newly added Red Bull Music Academy presents Future Classic Stage.

The RBMA/Future Classic stage will host performances from downtempo domo Four Tet, über-producer Jamie XX, psych-dance faves Jagwar Ma, post-dubstep troupe Mount Kimbie, rising star Cashmere Cat, young prodigy XXYYXX, as well as sets from Autre Ne Veut, Scenic, and hip hop luminaries Run The Jewels and Earl Sweatshirt.

To celebrate, Future Classic have also put together a free hour-long Laneway 2014 edition mixtape. You can listen/download below:

With Sydney and Melbourne Laneway Festivals now sold out, the Fremantle, Adelaide, and Brisbane legs aren’t far behind. Additionally, the latter opening date of the festival at the RNA Showgrounds in Fortitude Valley will have its curfew extended (for the first time) until midnight, “which means that 75% of the line up will play after 5pm and well into the night! Party time.” Note organisers.

Along with the festival sell outs, tickets to a number of the official Laneway Festival sideshows are beginning to disappear as well.

Scottish synth trio Chvrches’ Sydney sideshow is now sold out, with only a handful of tickets remaining for their Melbourne date at the Forum on Wednesday 29th January. The talented ginger-songwriter King Krule has also sold both of his Melbourne and Sydney sideshows, though tickets to all-female post punk group Savages are available for Melbourne and Sydney – with support from Kirin J Callinan.

Various tickets for Melbourne and Sydney sideshows that are still available for other Laneway artists include Jagwar MaKurt VileCass McCombsDaughterFrightened RabbitParquet Courts, Mount Kimbie, XXYYXX, Youth Lagoon, Drenge, and the triple bill from Danny Brown with Earl Sweatshirt and Run The Jewels.

If you’re keen to catch Lorde, Haim, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, or Cloud Control however, you’d better already have a ticket or get one quick as they’re all exclusive to the festival with no sideshows.
