In sad news for the Aussie live music scene, Splendour in the Grass has cancelled its Sydney pop up event, Splendour in the City.
In a statement, organisers explained that it was no longer possible to progress with plans due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak in Greater Sydney.
Given that the event was due to kick-off only a day after the current lockdown restrictions end on Friday, July 9th, organisers have decided to prioritise the health and safety of staff, volunteers and ticketholders.
Organisers also revealed Splendour in the City has been cancelled rather than postponed due to uncertainty around artist and venue availability.
“This is a heartbreaking situation for all of the crew, suppliers and artists that were working hard to deliver this event for Sydney,” said Jessica Ducrou, co-CEO of Secret Sounds.
“Splendour in the City was set to provide much-needed income for our live music industry which has been devasted since March 2020. We want to thank all of the music lovers out there who purchased tickets. Your ongoing support is very much appreciated.”
The event was due to be held at the Overseas Passenger Terminal from Saturday, July 10th to Sunday, July 18th.
