Foo Fighters performed ‘Times Like These’ during the ‘Celebrating America’ event in honour of Joe Biden’s inauguration as U.S. President.

As per Pitchfork, many big names showed up to mark Biden becoming the 46th President of the United States. Bruce Springsteen, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga (who featured in a serious photo alongside Biden this week which unsurprisingly became a meme), and John Legend all performed on Inauguration Day.

Even New Radicals, who gave us one of the best one-hit wonders ever, came out of hibernation. The event was finished by Katy Perry singing ‘Firework’.

Foo Fighters offered a poignant performance of their hit ‘Times Like These’, starting slow and serious before bursting into typical energetic life later. Before singing, Dave Grohl spoke about the importance of teachers like his mother Virginia Grohl, who was a public school teacher for 35 years, and the new First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden.

“This year our teachers were faced with unprecedented challenges, but through dedication and creativity, they faced those challenges head on,” Grohl said. “So this next song is for Mackenzie [Adams] and all of our unshakable teachers that enlighten our nation’s kids every day.”

The Mackenzie Adams he mentions was a kindergarten teacher who went viral a few months ago for her energetic and lively virtual classes during the COVID-19 pandemic that helped spark her student’s interest.

With a Biden Presidency, touring perhaps coming back, and a new LP on the way, 2021 is shaping up to be a good year for the Foo Fighters. Their forthcoming tenth studio album, Medicine at Midnight, is scheduled for release on February 5th. So far they’ve given fans three strong singles from the record: ‘No Son of Mine’, ‘Waiting on a War’, and ‘Shame Shame’, which they debuted on SNL back in November.
