2016 could well go down as the year the first slab of the giant wall between pop and alternative music, which has stood tall and proud for decades, finally got knocked down.
The last flock of hold-outs pretending they didn’t dig Justin Bieber’s new album finally relented and R&B queen Rihanna included a cover of a Tame Impala song on her latest album.
Miguel tapped Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker to do a remix of one of his songs soon after and now it looks as though Parker may serve as the bridge between the pop and indie worlds.
As triple j reports, Kevin Parker has been busy in the studio with previous collaborator Mark Ronson, with whom he worked on Uptown Special, and none other than Lady Gaga.
Ronson has uploaded a couple of snaps of Parker in the studio to his official Instagram channel, depicting the Tame Impala chief behind a drum kit and then mid-discussion with Gaga.
According to triple j, the third figure in the Gaga photo is LA-based producer BloodPop, formerly known as Blood Diamonds, best known for his work with Grimes and yes, Justin Bieber.
Ronson recently revealed during an interview that he’s been working on Gaga’s new album, telling Charlie Rose that they’re cooking up a “very honest, authentic, kind of analog record”.
Meanwhile, last month Parker told the AAP that he’s been working on new music and is unsure if it’s for Tame Impala or “for someone else, because I’ve been wanting to do that a lot more”.
