If you’ve been looking for a happier side to your hard rock, then the Melodicka Bros have you covered, recently dropping an acoustic version of ‘Chop Suey!’ by System Of A Down.

Look, we’ve seen some pretty intriguing covers over the years. Sure, we’ve seen unexpected covers, like Ben Gibbard covering Minor Threat, Lana Del Rey covering Sublime, and Miguel covering The Chats, but then, there are the ones that defy expectation.

Yes, we’ve also seen someone covering Toto’s ‘Africa’ on a bunch of veggies and a guy covering Tool using actual tools, but now, we’ve seen the happy take on a System Of A Down classic that we never expected.

Released back in 2001, ‘Chop Suey!’ is undoubtedly the one System Of A Down song that even casual fans know. Originally titled ‘Suicide’ and featuring some confronting vocals and lyrics, the track has become an anthem of the alternative metal genre, thanks in part to its frenzied and furious delivery.

Now, the Melodicka Bros have answered the question we never knew we wanted answered, and given us a happy cover of the iconic track.

Coming just weeks after a contestant on Britain’s Got Talent dished out a hand-fart version of the song, this new “way too happy” version sounds less like Serj Tankian on vocals, and more like the laidback Jason Mraz.

In related news, if you’re eager for a new record from System Of A Down, it sounds like you might be waiting for quite a while, with guitarist Daron Malakian revealing that a new album won’t “happen anytime soon.”

“We just haven’t come to agreement on how we would want to do it if we did make a record,” he explained back in February. “I never say never, but at this point, it’s not likely that it’s gonna happen anytime soon.”

While we try and get over the excruciating wait, at least we have a delightfully cheerful cover of System’s most iconic tune to tide us over.
