It looks like AC/DC are back in black once again, with reports claiming that vocalist Brian Johnson will “absolutely” front the band for upcoming shows.

Back in 2016, the world of rock music was shocked to learn that Brian Johnson had departed from AC/DC on “doctor’s orders”.

Addressing the news in a later statement, Johnson revealed that his departure was due to medically diagnosed hearing loss, saying he was “personally crushed by this development more than anyone could ever imagine” and called the news “the darkest day of my professional life”.

Since then, AC/DC went on to tour with Guns N’ Roses vocalist (and noted fan) Axl Rose fronting the band, and rumours circulated about whether ‘Axl/DC’ would make an album together.

However, in recent months, news has come forth to suggest that not only is AC/DC working on a new album, but that it will feature the likes of Phil Rudd, the late Malcolm Young, and even Brian Johnson.

When asked by LA grindcore band Terrorizer back in January, Johnson revealed he was “sick of denying” he wasn’t in AC/DC, before info broke just last week that a new album was ostensibly on the way.

“Well, yeah, I could say that we’ve been in the studio doing something,” explained longtime engineer Mike  Fraser revealed. “What’s come of that I can’t discuss yet.”

However, his mysterious confirmation about Brian Johnson’s appearance in the group appears to now hold some weight following a report by iconic radio DJ Eddie Trunk.

Discussing the news, Eddie Trunk explained that sources close to the band have reportedly revealed that Brian Johnson is set to front the band during their next tour.

“I think AC/DC—it’s pretty much a done deal that these guys are gonna make a record, or have made a record, and a record is gonna come out,” Trunk began.

“I have sources that have told me that they are absolutely going to tour with Brian back again. That’s all unconfirmed from their camp, but I had it from some reliable sources.”

“I think it’s pretty much a done deal that AC/DC at the very least are going to release some sort of record and it’ll be some sort of record and it’ll be some sort of tribute to Malcolm [Young] just like Back In Black was a tribute to Bon [Scott],” Trunk continued.

“So I have no doubt about that and I’m pretty confident they’re probably going to do shows as well. But I think at this point it’s pretty much just when they announce it.”

As Eddie Trunk notes, it’s still a little while away from being confirmed, but considering his clout within the music community, it’s worth noting that his “sources” may indeed be rather reputable.

Whatever the case, it looks like we might be receiving a pretty amazing tour announcement in the near future.
